League of Women Voters of South County Presents “The Officials”
Westerly, RI — The League of Women Voters of South County invites the public to a special screening of “The Officials” on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Westerly Library, 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI 02891. This compelling documentary shines a light on the everyday heroes who run our elections—often under intense pressure, partisanship, and even threats.
Following the film, three Rhode Island election experts will discuss and answer questions on the State of Rhode Island’s election system. The panel will consist of Miguel Nunez, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Board of Elections; Kathy Placencia, Director of Elections in the Rhode Island Department of State; and Rosalie Harris, Member of the Westerly Board of Canvassers.
This program marks the League’s second event in Westerly focused on educating the public about the voting process and highlighting the dedicated individuals who ensure elections are conducted fairly, securely, and transparently.
“The Officials” documents the experiences of election workers from Democratic, Republican, and swing states who continue to serve in the face of increasing partisanship, intimidation, and even violent threats. Their work—often behind the scenes—is essential to maintaining trust in the democratic process.
The League emphasizes that these election professionals are nonpartisan public servants whose commitment helps safeguard free and fair elections, and whose efforts deserve recognition and respect.
This event is free and open to the public.
