Mail-In Ballot News and Updates for 2026 General Election

Mail-In Ballot News and Updates for 2026 General Election

Time Range For Action Alert:
Aug 30 2026 to Dec 31 2026

The news we are all hearing about the status of mail-in ballots is both confusing and worrisome. Because people look to the LWV for reliable information and guidance on election-related issues, we want to provide some up-to-date details on the situation that you can share with the public.

As of now nothing has changed with respect to mail-in ballots. In Maryland, if you have requested, or plan to request (by Oct. 27), a mail-in ballot you will receive one. The League strongly recommends that you return your completed ballot by using a drop box, by taking it to a polling place during early voting or on election day, or by taking it to your county’s Board of Elections. If none of these options is available, mail your ballot back at least one week before Nov. 3. All mail-in ballots will be counted, and you will receive notification when your mail-in ballot is received and when it is counted.

Since the news regarding mail-in ballots is developing, we will continue to provide our members with the latest information. The Frederick County and Maryland State Boards of Elections are reliable communicators, so the community will be notified of any changes to the voting process.  Also, if the LWVUS or the LWVMD provide further guidance, we will share it with our members.

If you have any questions or concerns about mail-in voting or any other election-related matter, please contact us at lwvoffc [at] gmail.com.  We will respond with the latest information available.
