  • Become a LWVODC Communications Ambassador

We are looking for help in gettiing the word out about our ODC events. You can be a LWVODC Communications Ambassador (CCA) with only a few minutes of your time. We are looking for members who can post ODC events to their extended NextDoor neighborhoods or belong to a community email  server. Idealy, we would like to cover as many communities in Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties as possible. When an ODC event is open to the public, all "Communications Ambassadors" will receive an email with the pre-formatted event announcemtnn that can be emailed to community residents. Please sign up here if you are interested.

  • Citizen Initiative and Referendum (CIR) Study

LWVNC is about to launch a statewide study of CIR under the direction of the state board and with study team members from several Leagues across the state. Currently, 26 states have a CIR process. This study is an essential step toward putting a League position in place so we can advocate for CIR adoption. This study will build on decades of hard work by league colleagues across the country. We have assembled some 35 studies, reports, and positions on CIR produced by 18 state Leagues from Alaska to Florida. Some of these states have had CIR for well over a century and are looking to fine-tune their systems, but others have no CIR systems in place. Maryland just adopted a position in 2021 and is now working to get CIR adopted there. Alabama is actively pursuing CIR as well, and Florida is targeting reforms to further strengthen their longstanding CIR system. These studies will boost our efforts with our sister Leagues’ hard-won expertise, giving us what we need to reach our goal: Empowering NC voters by allowing them to collect signatures to place legislation on the ballot for such things as reforming redistricting, providing more funding for our schools, and finally approving the ERA! Contact Jennifer, bremer.jennifer [at] gmail.com, for more information &/or to join this important study.

  • Vote411

Our Vote411 Team is gearing up for fall elections, and need help! For the uninitiated, Vote411.org is a nationwide, nonpartisan website that generates a personalized voter guide for voters who enter their address. League volunteers contact candidates in their area to invite them to share information about their campaign. The candidates' unedited information is then publized in Vote411 to help spread the word to voters in their community about their candidacy for local, state, or national office. We will also need volunteers to distribute Vote411 road signs, flyers, etc. Contact Valeria at lwv.valgist [at] gmail.com if you can help!

  • Register Voters

This will be a busy 2024 election year for LWVODC as we ramp up for important elections from the courthouse to the White House. Now more than ever, we need league members to volunteer for voter services related activities. The best thing we can do to promote fair elections in North Carolina is to be sure that as many people as possible are ready and able to vote.  Registering voters in public locations is one of the best ways to further this objective. Registering voters is a strong tradition in the League and probably what we are best known for, so what better way to get active! Whether you do it for half an hour on the way to meeting someone or going shopping or attending an event where you can spend a couple of hours registering people, collectively we can make a difference.  Training will be provided. Please help as much as you can. Contact Maureen at lwv.mgalvin [at] gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about voter registration, voter education and voter outreach.

  • Voter Education for Groups/Organizations

Help us get connected to your groups/organizations (faith based, community, special interest, etc.). The Voter Services Team will provide video presentations and Q/A sessions on current voting laws, procedures, election schedules, as well as a VOTE411 voter guide. Connect us with your group, and we'll do the rest! If you wish more information, please contact us at lwvodc1 [at] gmail.com.

  • Observers for County Board of Elections Meetings

Orange, Durham, and Chatham County BOE meetings are open to the public and Boards are pleased to have LWVODC observers. You will learn a great deal about how the Board does its work of making elections fair, secure, and accessible. Developing an ongoing relationship between the local Board and the out league is a excellent foundation for substantive two-way communication. If you are interested, please contact lwvodc1 [at] gmail.com.

Do you enjoy talking with people on the phone? If so, this volunteer opportunity is just right for you. Call new members and welcome them to the League! League background information, information on future League meetings, and a short membership questionnaire to obtain member background and interest will be provided to you to use when talking with new members. If interested, please contact us at lwvodc1 [at] gmail.com

  • Public Education Action Team

We continuously seeks new members to attend our meetings and/or join our team. Our team is looking for volunteers to help with writing letters to the editor and developing other outreach material. Please contact Ruth Ann Groh or Zena Alman

  • Program Planning Team

If you have an interest in coordinating, moderating or just helping out with event planning, please contact us at  lwvodc1 [at] gmail.com
