In February 2024, the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh adopted a Gun Safety Position that is broader in scope than the current LWV Gun Position. It specifically rejects the assertion that the Second Amendment prohibits the regulation of firearms and that gun violence should be addressed primarily as a law-enforcement problem or by "hardening" schools, government buildings, public transportation infrastructure and public venues. Rather, the LWVPGH endorses a public health approach to reducing gun violence. This program shares their position and the research underpinning it.
