Takiyah Nur Amin, head of diversity for VT College of Architecture, will speak about recruiting younger, more diverse members to the League, She worked with the Charlotte, VA league on this issue.
Takiyah Nur Amin, MFA., PhD is a dance scholar, educator, and academic success strategist. Currently, she serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the College of Architecture, Arts and Design at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Amin has earned degrees from Temple University, Virginia Tech and the State University of New York at Buffalo. In addition, she holds graduate certificates in women’s and gender studies and teaching in higher education.
Her DEI work started in 2004 as she earned her Master of Fine Arts at Virginia Tech, where she later served as an instructor in the Africana Studies Program and the department of history, as outreach coordinator for the Race and Social Policy Research Center, and interim coordinator of multicultural programs for the Dean of Students Office. From there, she embarked on a career rooted in her expertise in dance and institutional development. While at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte she was assistant professor of world dance and she continued supporting DEI efforts for students and Faculty.
