We were dismayed to learn that the top elected officials of at least two towns (Vernon and Wallingford) have chosen to make their locked absentee ballot drop-boxes accessible only inside their Town Halls or only when Town Hall is staffed. Town election officials need to provide unfettered access to the process of voting by absentee ballot, including access to the absentee ballot drop-boxes 24/7.

Public Statement

The American Civil Liberties Union and ACLU of Connecticut filed a federal lawsuit seeking to make absentee mail-in voting available to every eligible voter during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches and the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, as well as an individual Connecticut resident.
