American Women's Quarters Program releases Ida B. Wells quarter

Ida B. Wells, journalist, suffragist, civil rights activist, and a founder of the NAACP -- and now the 16th woman honored as part of The American Women Quarters Program. The program, a partnership between the U.S. Mint and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum, celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women of the United States. Previous awardees include Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America; Dr. Vera Rubin,  astronomer who established the presence of dark matter in galaxies; Stacey Park Milber, activist for disability rights; and the athlete Althea Gibson, the first African American to win a Grand Slam in international tennis.
