The League of Women Voters of Delaware is proud to announce its 2022 Black History Month program. Each week during the month of February, a set of "assignments" (resources and questions) will be provided for your review and reflection.

At the end of the month, on the evening of February 28th, participants will come together in a virtual meeting for a culminating discussion. Register here: Feb 28 Debriefing Conversation for LWVDE Black History Month Program

Welcome –
Thank you for joining us for what we hope will be an educational and reflective opportunity; giving recognition and honor to the truths of the African American experience – The history that holds pain and suffering, stories shared and yet to be shared, personal accomplishments and the many contributions of individuals and families that have enhanced the tapestry of this Nation. This program was created with deep respect and love for our brothers and sisters, colleagues and neighbors, friends and family who have led the way, standing with courage and hope in a never-ending pursuit of equal human and civil rights.

This program invites you to engage in learning and reflection throughout the month.

We have chosen four “legislative areas” that the League of Women Voters engage. There is one topic for every week of the month. Each topic provides multiple opportunities for engagement and learning. You may choose one, two or more of these options each week.

As you read, view, or listen to the offerings we invite you to keep a Journal, jotting down some of your impressions, questions, thoughts, learnings – using these prompts – or allowing yourself to respond to whatever is rising for you as you participate.

Prompt Questions:
1. Reflecting on what you know about human and civil rights history in our Nation while holding the topic area for this week in mind (Voting Rights, Education, Health, Education) -
• What did you learn that you did not know prior to participating in this Black History Month learning experience?
• Have our policies in these topic areas remained the same, experienced progress or set-backs?
• What should be done to promote further progress?

2. As you consider this week’s Topic, we invite you to hold the ideals of civic and social responsibilities as you engage with the materials.
• How should what you have learned inform the policy efforts we are engaged in at the League of Women Voters?
• What additional issues within these topics should the League be focused?

3. If we believe that we are responsible for one another –
• What societal structures need to be addressed to meet these responsibilities so that we achieve human equality, inclusiveness, and justice for all?
• In what ways are each of these topic areas important to achieving free and healthy communities?

We Thank You for your interest and participation!

PLEASE JOIN US for our Culminating Event: A Debriefing Conversation to share our experience, thoughts, insights and questions – Monday, February 28th, 7:00-8:15 pm. A Zoom Invitation will be posted on the LWVDE Website, FB Page, and emailed to Membership!
