Voting Rules in Delaware have Changed Yet AGAIN!

How to Vote in Delaware - What's New in 2022

Registration change

On 10/7/2022, the Delaware State Supreme Court ruled that two of our new voting laws… those providing mail-in voting and same-day registration… violate our state constitution.

Therefore, neither vote-by-mail nor same-day registration will be available for the general election on November 8, 2022. SO, YOU MAY NEED TO ADJUST YOUR VOTING PLAN!

If you’re not yet registered to vote in Delaware, the previous registration deadline of Saturday October 15th applies once again. Check your registration status at www.VOTE411.org or https://ivote.de.gov

Options for casting your vote include voting on Election Day at your assigned polling place, voting up to 10 days early in-person at designated locations in each county, or voting by absentee ballot if you qualify.

If you liked voting by mail in 2020, the only way we’ll get that back in Delaware is by amending our state constitution. Which means we’ll need to elect more state legislators who support voting rights. Check your state senator and state representative’s voting record on past amendment attempts at legis.delaware.gov

Search out previous no-excuse absentee voting bills and scroll down to the roll call vote list… particularly HB 75 in 2021, and HB 73 in 2019.

      • Roll call votes for HB 73, in 2019
      • Roll call vote for HB 75, in 2021
      • Roll call vote HB 20, in 2013

Also, HB 331 in 2012, HB 105 in 2015, and HB 63 in 2017 were released from house committee but never came to a vote because the necessary 2/3rd majority votes weren't there in the Delaware House of Representatives.

Attempts to pass this reform to remove unnecessary restrictions on voting in our state have been blocked by a small group of legislators for at least ten years. If yours is one of them, ask yourself “Why does my elected representative want to make it harder for me to vote?” And “Why do I keep electing this person to represent me?”
