Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts & League of Women Voters

to Host Promise of Democracy Event

Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is excited to announce a our inaugural Founder's Day Feature Event, "The Promise of Democracy: Empowering our World Together," taking place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 AM to 3 PM at Clayton Hall, located at 100 David Hollowell Dr. Newark, DE 19716. This event is in partnership with the League of Women Voters and is made possible by donations from M&T Bank, Delmarva Power, Inc., and other generous sponsors.

This inspiring event will bring together Girl Scouts from across the region, local elected officials, and community leaders to celebrate civic engagement and empower today's girls to make their voices heard.

The event will feature a panel discussion with local officials, including State Representative Sherry Dorsey Walker, military veteran and community advocate Debbie Harrington, and more. These leaders will share their experiences in public service, discuss the importance of civic participation, and answer questions from Girl Scouts and attendees.

In addition to the panel, the event will include keynote speakers and hands-on activities designed by the League of Women Voters to educate Girl Scouts about the democratic process, local, state and national government, and leveraging their leadership skills to make an impact. Girl Scouts will engage in activities that foster teamwork, critical thinking, and confidence, preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow and earning them their Democracy badge!

Empowering Girl Scouts to understand and participate in democracy is a vital part of their Girl Scout experience, said Claudia Pena Porretti, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay. This event not only allows them to learn from our elected officials but also encourages them to envision themselves as future leaders in their communities.

"The Promise of Democracy: Empowering our World Together" event is open to all current and prospective Girl Scouts (grades K-12). Lunch will be provided, and activities will cater to all Girl Scout program levels.
