U.S. Senate Special Republican Party Primary
Tuesday, August 11, 2026
☑️ Voting on Election Day
Not every voter is eligible to participate in the Special Republican Primary Runoff. Voters who voted in the June Democratic Primary or Runoff are not eligible to vote in this election.
- Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
- Any voter who is in line by 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
- Before heading to the polls, voters are encouraged to verify their polling place and review their sample ballot at scVOTES.gov.
- Make sure to bring a valid Photo ID to vote.
Returning an Absentee Ballot
Voters who still have an absentee ballot should keep the following in mind:
- To be counted, absentee ballots must be received by the county voter registration and elections office no later than 7:00 p.m. on August 25.
- Instead of mailing your ballot, consider personally delivering your ballot to ensure it arrives on time.

Midterms Approaching Fast!
Here’s how you can take action:
☑️ Our league depends on volunteers, and the needs between now and the 2026 mid‑terms are extremely high. Contact asaloncarol [at] gmail.com (subject: Volunteer, body: ) (Carol Asalon) for more information.
- Candidate Forums. Be part of the Candidate Forum team. Organize, find venues, contact candidates.
- Voter registration and education events. Training on voter registration will be provided. If new, you will be matched with an experienced person.
- High Schools / college outreach. Give presentations to high schools and community groups. Training and script will be provided.
- Community outreach and festivals. Identify community groups with whom you have built a relationship. Goal: reach out and connect with groups through various ways - a presentation, dialogue, or voter registration - and meet people where they are. Community groups may include: youth groups, women’s groups, civic/community organizations, social clubs, community meetings, apartment complexes, ethnic grocery stores, libraries, work with realtors.

- Thursday, August 27:Oconee Board of Elections & Voter Registration, Canvass/Certification of Special Primary Runoff at 9 am at 415 South Pine St. Walhalla SC in Council Chambers.

“South Carolina’s Public Service Commission (PSC) has given itself six months to review the largest utility merger in U.S. history — the proposed $67-billion deal between Florida power behemoth NextEra and Virginia’s Dominion Energy, which operates in 20 states including S.C.
The company's plans to add 15 gigawatts of power generation to support data center growth caught the attention of S.C. ratepayer advocates. “It’s all about data centers,” S.C. League of Women Voters Vice President Lynn Teague said with a sigh. “That’s what’s making Dominion such an attractive target.”
Data centers — increasingly controversial in S.C. due to their high water and power usage — have emerged as a major issue in the merger…”

Most of our environmental laws and regulations exist because of abuses that have harmed millions. Data centers are the newest example. This doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t exist. They will continue to expand and have a substantial influence on our lives. It does mean that their owners must be compelled to be transparent about their plans, build and operate their facilities in ways that do not trample on the lives of their neighbors, and they must pay their own way.”

National Level Actions
Another LWV win! Federal Court Blocks Executive Order Restricting Mail Voting
August 11, 2026: A federal court today issued a preliminary injunction blocking USPS from implementing President Trump’s 2026 executive order restricting mail voting, in a case brought by the League of Women Voters and a coalition of other nonpartisan voting rights groups.
Tell Congress to oppose the SAVE Act Suite of bills
The Senate is preparing to leave Washington, DC for August recess from August 10 – September 11. During this time, the League is encouraging members and supporters to visit their Senator’s state offices, call their offices, or send our action alert opposing the SAVE Act.
When your Senators are in your area, you can speak directly with them or their staff by visiting them, calling their state offices, or attending community events. Doing so helps your Senators understand their constituents’ interests and concerns, shows them that their constituents are paying attention, and compels them to put a face to their decisions.

LWVUS Strongly Denounces President Trump’s False Claims About Election Security
July 16, 2026: “The League of Women Voters strongly denounces President Trump’s false, outlandish, and indefensible claims related to the security of US elections. Continuing to spread allegations that have been repeatedly debunked by experts through countless court proceedings not only erodes public confidence in the democratic process but also further weakens the institutions that protect our freedom to vote. This is yet another brazen attempt to undermine elections and suppress voter turnout.
“Our elections and national security have been protected because of agencies such as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC), both of which had their leadership dismantled by the Trump administration. You cannot claim to defend election integrity while blatantly dismantling it and firing the independent experts whose very job it is to protect it.
