Observer Corps – Oconee and Pickens Counties
Observer Corps is made up of League members who are curious about how local government works and the issues being discussed in our community. Members attend meetings strictly as observers, not participants, and then complete a short form or write a brief report about what was covered. These reports may be shared in our newsletter, The Voter, so the whole membership can stay informed.
The Observer Corps currently attends Oconee and Pickens County Council and School Board of Trustees meetings, but can include any local body of elected or appointed officials. One of the most effective ways to help ensure decisions are made in the public interest is to promote government transparency through routine and visible observation of these meetings. By showing up, we remind officials that the community is watching and engaged.

Training & Support
All volunteers will receive training and a simple form to guide their reporting. The more volunteers we have, the lighter the load for everyone. Coordination of observers will be managed by Sue Blount at kerry9464 [at] att.net (Oconee County) and Sharon Burns at sharon829 [at] me.com (Pickens County).
