The October LWVLA Forum meeting will be held on-line, as Zoom Video Conference Meeting, to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.  The League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area’s Educational Forum series continues with a virtual talk by Judith Grisel, a behavioral neuroscientist and Professor of Psychology at Bucknell University.  She is the author of “Never Enough, the Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction.”  Grisel says “I’m trying to determine what is different about people who develop drug addictions before they ever try a drug.”

Grisel is a behavioral neuroscientist with expertise in pharmacology and genetics whose research focuses on determining root causes of drug addiction. She studies sex differences in the roles of stress and endorphins on drug reward and works to identify innate factors that contribute to individual differences in the liability toward addiction. 

Grisel’s work at Bucknell is inspired by her own personal experience with addiction, a struggle chronicled in her book. The work, which appeared on The New York Times best seller list for science books, established Grisel as a leading expert on the science of substance abuse and garnered her an invitation to speak at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.  

The meeting is open to members and the general public. League membership is not required to participate in these programs and all are welcome.  

The Forum will be on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 12 noon, although the Zoom meeting room will open at 11:30 a.m. The program will be followed by optional small group discussion immediately following the formal presentation. 

LWVLA Forum meetings during the early fall will be held virtually, as Zoom Video Meetings, to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.  

All participants *must* register in advance.  Instructions and unique links will be sent to pre-registrants. A custom link to the Zoom meeting and instructions will be emailed to each participant who registers in advance. An internet connection and a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone with a camera and microphone are needed to successfully log onto the call. To initiate registration, send an email with your name to LWVLAForum [at] gmail.com.
