LWVLA Difference Makers

LWVLA recognizes the ways in which individuals and organizations make Union County such a special place. At each year's annual meeting, individuals are honored for their demonstrated commitment.

The "PDF icon Judy Anderson Award" recognizes a Union County individual or organization for their years of noteworthy contribution to the community. In 2021, this award recognized Transitions of PA's contributions, adding to the list of historic winners.

The "PDF icon Jill Reynolds Award" recognizes a (non-Board) member of LWVLA for their contribution to empower voters and defend democracy. For her contributions to Voter Services, especially publications and educational materials, Dawn Maneval was recognized in 2021. Many other recipients preceded her.

The Nancy Neuman Citizenship Award was established to recognize a high school student with leadership potential and to encourage her/his interest in national and international events that have an impact on the  local community. The student's activities should be able to demonstrate that s/he has taken informed action, advocacy and/or service to the school or community. Leadership in this activity in an important qualifier for this award. Grades and standardized test scores are minor considerations.  An essay should reflect what the student had done to promote his/her fellow students or members of the community to identify and understand many aspects of an event/issue and what steps s/he has taken to educate and activate others toward working toward a resolution. In 2021 two students were recognized: Sarah Mahoney (Lewisburg) and Alden Gajda (Lewisburg), shown below with guidance counselor Vicki Fennell.
