Local-Level Actions

ACTION 1: ATTEND Panel Discussion Presented by LWVSC Healthcare Policy Workgroup.

August 6, 2025, 5:30-6:30 pm.

Threats to Public Health in SC discussion

The full membership of the League of Women Voters of SC is invited to this panel discussion co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Charleston’s Healthcare Policy Workgroup. Panel members will focus on the decline in childhood vaccinations and the impact that loss of funding for the Department of Public Health may have on the department’s ability to protect our health.

Panelists are three experts who have deep connections to SC public health. Wanda Crotwell, a health-care lobbyist, Dr. Kathleen Cartmell, chairperson of the SC Immunization Coalition and Scott Thorpe, Executive Director of the Southern Alliance for Public Health Leadership.

ACTION 2: ATTEND meetings of your local government and stay informed on local issues.

ACTION 3: LWVUS WEBINAR: Engaging Voters in 2025 With Civic Holidays

Aug. 5, 3 pm

Join LWVUS to learn about the Civic Holidays and how local Leagues can effectively leverage these days of action to ensure all voters are prepared to have their voices heard. We will be joined by our partners from National Voter Registration Day, National Voter Education Week, Vote Early Day, and Election Hero Day! Register and learn more! 

ACTION 4: SAVE THE DATE: National Poll Worker Recruitment Day

Action 5: Attend a session: The Legislative Process and Public Education

The legislative process and public education

Promoted by the Freedom to Read coalition, these one-hour sessions will help attendees understand how state laws affect public education. Each session will cover the legislative process, navigating the SC Legislature website, current bills, and tips for engaging in advocacy. The League of Women Voters of South Carolina is a partnering organization. Learn more at the LWVSC website.

ACTION 6: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

“Next week, Senators Durbin and Warnock will reintroduce the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). This important legislation will restore and modernize the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) and ensure that every voter has equal access to the ballot box. To mark the VRA’s 60th anniversary on August 6, LWVUS will issue an action alert on the VRAA. Watch theLWVUS take action page next week to share our action alert!”  — LWVUS

This virtual training series will include five key topics, outlining how Leagues can activate and mobilize their communities in this rapidly changing political environment and make a lasting impact. Members are welcome to attend any of the following sessions, occurring through the summer and early fall. Find the upcoming agenda and more information on each session.

  • Aug. 20, 12:30pm ET | Understand the Three Branches of Government
  • Sept. 17, 11am ET | Working With Local Election Officials to Anchor Change
