State-Level Actions
ACTION 1: ATTEND Panel Discussion Presented by LWVSC Healthcare Policy Workgroup.
August 6, 2025, 5:30-6:30 pm.
The full membership of the League of Women Voters of SC is invited to this panel discussion co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Charleston’s Healthcare Policy Workgroup. Panel members will focus on the decline in childhood vaccinations and the impact that loss of funding for the Department of Public Health may have on the department’s ability to protect our health.
Panelists are three experts who have deep connections to SC public health. Wanda Crotwell, a health-care lobbyist, Dr. Kathleen Cartmell, chairperson of the SC Immunization Coalition and Scott Thorpe, Executive Director of the Southern Alliance for Public Health Leadership.

ACTION 3: SAVE THE DATE: National Poll Worker Recruitment Day
August 12
And as we gear up for local elections this fall, it’s critical to recruit poll workers who can ensure safe, free, and fair elections for all. Learn more about local league participation on the LWVUS website.
Action 4: Attend a session: The Legislative Process and Public Education
Greenville, Thursday, August 28
Promoted by the Freedom to Read coalition, these one-hour sessions will help attendees understand how state laws affect public education. Each session will cover the legislative process, navigating the SC Legislature website, current bills, and tips for engaging in advocacy. The League of Women Voters of South Carolina is a partnering organization. Learn more at the LWVSC website.

ACTION 6: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act
“Next week, Senators Durbin and Warnock will reintroduce the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). This important legislation will restore and modernize the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) and ensure that every voter has equal access to the ballot box. To mark the VRA’s 60th anniversary on August 6, LWVUS will issue an action alert on the VRAA. Watch theLWVUS take action page next week to share our action alert!” — LWVUS
ACTION 7: Holding Power Accountable
From LWVUS: For the second micro campaign, we are holding power accountable. We focus on:
- Defending and advancing voting rights, ensuring transparency and fairness in midcycle redistricting.
- Advocating for economic justice (budgets, reconciliation, Medicaid, SNAP, ICE funding and appropriations). Refer to the resources on the LMS for educating your community about the budget process.
- Encouraging everyday democracy actions. Take daily nonviolent action to hold power accountable.
- Building a nationwide network of government and election observers. Use the Election Observation Toolkit to plan election observation work.
- Highlighting the role of the courts in our system of checks and balances.

ACTION 8: SHARE a post on Facebook with your friends or public. This simple action can reach many people, and takes only minutes to do.

ACTION 9: ADVOCATE: Understand the Three Branches of Government

This virtual training series will include five key topics, outlining how Leagues can activate and mobilize their communities in this rapidly changing political environment and make a lasting impact. Members are welcome to attend any of the following sessions, occurring through the summer and early fall. Find the upcoming agenda and more information on each session.
