League of Women Voters, Campaign Legal Center Celebrate Victory as Court Blocks USCIS Rule

Civic engagement groups are now able to resume voter registration at administrative naturalization ceremonies. “When people become American citizens, they should be welcomed into full participation in civic life, not met with new barriers,” said Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters. “For generations, the League has stood beside new citizens as they take the oath of citizenship and prepare to make their voices heard at the ballot box. Today’s ruling protects that fundamental democratic principle, and we will continue fighting to ensure every eligible voter can participate freely and fully in our democracy.”

A graphic for the Unite and Rise event

On August 8, the League of Women Voters will Unite and Rise for Voting Rights nationwide to honor the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and demonstrate the power of communities working together to shape our future. Democracy is strongest when everyone can participate. Despite the escalating threats to free and fair elections, we continue the work of Americans who organized, mobilized, and raised their voices to defend them.

On August 8, join us as we Unite and Rise for Voting Rights, for the next 61 years and beyond.

Tell Congress to oppose the SAVE Act Suite of bills

The Senate is preparing to leave Washington, DC for August recess from August 10 – September 11. During this time, the League is encouraging members and supporters to visit their Senator’s state offices, call their offices, or send our action alert opposing the SAVE Act.

When your Senators are in your area, you can speak directly with them or their staff by visiting them, calling their state offices, or attending community events. Doing so helps your Senators understand their constituents’ interests and concerns, shows them that their constituents are paying attention, and compels them to put a face to their decisions.

A poster for the documentary "Cookie Queens."

“Cookie Queens is a documentary that celebrates girlhood in all its complexity. The joy, the pressure, the friendship, and the fierce ambition that runs through one of America's most beloved traditions: Girl Scout Cookie season. But it is also a film about something bigger: what it means to grow up as a girl in America today, to navigate expectations, to find your voice, and to discover your power within a community of women.

Director Alysa Nahmias has crafted a film that is already charming audiences across the country. With warmth, humor, and a keen eye for the small moments that reveal big truths, Cookie Queens honors the girls' perspectives and illuminates the emotional and intellectual depth of their experiences.

Cookie Queens opens in theatres nationwide on August 7th. We encourage you to share this film with the women and girls in your community and make it a shared experience worth remembering.”

LWVUS Strongly Denounces President Trump’s False Claims About Election Security

July 16, 2026: “The League of Women Voters strongly denounces President Trump’s false, outlandish, and indefensible claims related to the security of US elections. Continuing to spread allegations that have been repeatedly debunked by experts through countless court proceedings not only erodes public confidence in the democratic process but also further weakens the institutions that protect our freedom to vote. This is yet another brazen attempt to undermine elections and suppress voter turnout.

“Our elections and national security have been protected because of agencies such as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC), both of which had their leadership dismantled by the Trump administration. You cannot claim to defend election integrity while blatantly dismantling it and firing the independent experts whose very job it is to protect it.
