Pickens County Library Board Special-Called Meeting
Friday, March 6 at 5:30 pm
Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library, Easley
With short notice and no public comment on the agenda, the Pickens County Library Board will meet again this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley. The agenda is here: PCLS Special-called Meeting.
If you are able to attend, please consider being there. Community presence helps show that Pickens County residents value transparency, accountability, and thoughtful decision-making for our public libraries.
This is the third special-called meeting in less than a month as the board deals with the fallout from sweeping policy changes adopted in January—including a policy requiring review of 86,000 books, reductions in library programming to free up staff for that review, and the dismissal of the well-qualified library director.
Decisions of this scale, which have major impacts on services, staff, and the community, deserve a transparent and deliberative process. Addressing the fallout from these changes through a rapid series of special-called meetings, particularly without opportunities for public comment, raises serious concerns about good governance.
