Glen A. Halva-Neubauer is Dana Professor of Politics and International Affairs and Chair at Furman University. A native of Iowa, he earned his B.A. from the University of Iowa, and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. For nearly four decades he has taught courses in state and local government, emphasizing the many constraints, including home rule, under which local governments operate. His published work focuses on state-level abortion politics and policy.

His interest in agriculture policy led him to develop “Farm,” a May Experience course that brings Furman students to North Central Iowa, where they live with farm families while analyzing agricultural policies, practices, and politics. He also is the founder and long-time director of the University’s highly successful mock trial program—a simulation of a courtroom trial in which students portray attorneys and witnesses and argue their cases against teams from other colleges and universities.
