LWV Diablo Valley Action Committee

LWV Diablo Valley Action Committee

League members take action on issues where we have studied the topic and have reached conclusions that are embodied in our positions. We work together to stay informed, educate League members, and strategize about steps we can take to defend our democracy. Our actions and non-partisan advocacy are especially urgent in this pivotal moment of our democracy.

Our Action/Advocacy Committee meets monthly. (See event notices below or on the list of Events.)

Action Committee meeting notes are posted below. (Archived notes are available below for League members who log in to view the notes. The archived notes can also be viewed on the Members Only page, which can be accessed from the left navigation menu once you are logged in.)

Thanks to a great team of petition circulators and speakers, in 2019 we returned 60+ petitions with  more than 500 signatures. I set our League goal at 1,000 signatures. We have almost 3 more months and I think we can reach this number.

We helped qualify this initiative last year, but the Schools and Communities First coalition has made some changes that will make it even easier to get this passed on the November 2020 ballot. We are joining the LWVC and other local Leagues and coalition partners to gather signatures to re-file this improved initiative.

Affordable housing, available housing, any housing - housing writ large - is an overwhelming concern in our state and our community. Everyone responds in different ways. To find out more, I recently met with Lafayette’s Interim City Manager, Niroop Srivatsa.
