I had the pleasure of volunteering at the San Mateo County Youth Civic Leadership Summit in Downtown Redwood City on April 13. This event was transformational as the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the League of Women Voters’ goals, which, for this event specifically, was to educate and empower young voters. I learned that the League has a long-standing history of advocating for voting rights and providing fair and balanced perspectives on political issues. Additionally, there were opportunities to network with other students and a wide range of programs, nonprofit organizations, and local government leaders. Overall, I believe events like this are critical to ensure youth understand and actively engage in the democratic process.
