Protecting Your Right to Know

The right to know what the government is doing is integral to our democracy.

Since 1920, the League has championed government transparency. Our Observer Corps gives community members a structured way to stay informed and hold officials accountable. By attending public meetings and reporting back, Observers shine a light on decisions that affect our lives, reminding leaders that the public is watching.

Why it matters: Local decisions shape our schools, neighborhoods, safety, and environment. When residents show up, officials know they’re accountable.
