The weather cooperated and we had a great turnout for our 2026 Kickoff meeting. About 40 people crowded into the meeting room at Lewes Library, and a few more joined via Zoom. With the 2026 midterms on everyone's mind, the meeting theme was Be the Light. We opened with a beautiful recitation of Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb," by members Fern Goodhart and Pam Juliso. Thus inspired to take action, attendees listened to President Barb Hedges-Goettl talk about the need for every person to take action to be the light during this chaotic time in our history. LWVDE President Tiffany Geyer Lydon spoke about action and priorities for LWVUS, including the Unite & Rise program, and covered LWVDE Advocacy Corps issues and legislative activity. Then leaders from each Sussex LWV committee briefed the group on their plans for 2026 -- and opportunities for members to be the light by signing on to support specific tasks to further our mission.
