Each election year, primary elections are held for Delaware's two major political parties: Democrats and Republicans. Primaries select these party's candidates for the November general election. Most Delaware primaries are held in September, but primaries for the office of US President are held in April.
Delaware has closed primaries, meaning that only registered voters from participating parties may vote for their party's candidates. February 2, 2024 is the deadline to change political party affiliation in order to vote the April 2, 2024 Delaware Presidential Primary Election for that party.
