Seneca Falls Trip

Seneca Falls Trip

Seneca Falls

The Delaware League is going to Seneca Falls May 1 - 3!

Seneca Falls was the location of the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848.  The Women's Rights National Historic Park is located there. It includes the Elizabeth Cady Stanton House and other places packed with history related to those early years that led to passage of the 19th Amendment. Join us. (registration form at bottom of page)

We've hired a coach that will hold 55 people.  Amenities include wifi, on-board movies (which we're going to take advantage of) and a lavatory. The trip is long – about 8 hours, including a lunch stop, if you leave from Rehoboth -- but we have activities planned to while away the time coming and going.  Among those activities Gwendolyn Miller, chair of our DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) Committee will give a preview of the program she's developing for the League.

COST:
Double occupancy $301 per person
Single occupancy $389 per person

Cost includes round trip coach, two nights lodging (including breakfast) and a full plated dinner at the Gould Hotel on Saturday night.
The museums are free. We have reserved a block of rooms at the hotel.

Approximately 10:00 AM – The bus will take us to the historic district.

WomanPark     Tour of Women's Rights National Historical Park was established in 1980, and covers a total of 6.83 acres of land in Seneca Falls and nearby Waterloo, New York, United States.

The park consists of four major historical properties including the Wesleyan Methodist Church, which was the site of the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women's rights convention. The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House, and the homes of other early women's rights activists (the M'Clintock House and the Richard Hunt House) are also on display. The park includes a visitor center and an education and cultural center housing the Suffrage Press Printshop.

The Visitor Center lobby houses a large, life-size bronze sculpture, The First Wave, which consists of twenty figures representing women and men who attended the first Women's Rights Convention. Nine of the sculpture's figures represent actual participants and organizers of the convention: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Mary Ann M'Clintock, Martha Wright, Jane Hunt, Frederick Douglass, James Mott, Thomas M'Clintock, and Richard Hunt. The other eleven figures represent the "anonymous" women and men who participated in the 2-day convention, which took place on July 19 and 20, 1848, and which drew over 300 people. Many of the participants signed a "Declaration of Sentiments," the convention's defining document, which declared that "all men and women are created equal."

There are two other small museums that may be of interest. Both are free and in the historic district. One is the Seneca Museum of Waterways. Since we're all interested in water distribution and the environmental issues that surround it, you may want to visit. The other is totally unrelated but fun if you're a movie buff.  Bedford Falls, the fictional town where the movie “It's a Wonderful Life” takes place was partially filmed on location at Seneca Falls. There is a small museum filled with information and memorabilia about the film. Who knew?
