LWVDE Black History Month Program - February 2022
LWVDE is proud to announce its 2022 Black History Month program. Each week during the month of February, a set of "assignments" (resources and questions) will be provided for your review and reflection, culminating in a virtual discussion on Feb 28th.
Feb 10 Author Event with Anne Boylan
In her book, Dr. Boylan introduces us to the courageous Delawareans working at the state and national level to win the franchise. Starting in the 1890’s, white and African-American women organized and advocated for “votes for women” at the state and national levels, culminating in a dramatic struggle in Dover in the spring of 1920 over the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Discovering Dr. King’s Dream, Then and Now
LWVDE hosted an online program on Jan 17, 2022 entitled "Discovering Dr. King’s Dream, Then and Now," a virtual tour of Montgomery Alabama led by local storyteller, songstress and tour guide, Ms. Wanda Battle. The tour video is posted in this article.
Book Study Discussion Series: The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee
...the League of Women Voters of Delaware has announced a book study discussion series on The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee, to run from January through May 2022, moderated by Kathleen Baker. Participants will read two chapters per month, share their experiences, and seek to answer the question “Who Are We as Americans?” Participants may attend one, several, or all sessions. Sessions are open to both League of Women Voters members and the general public.
