LWVVC hosted a well-attended Advocacy Workshop on Saturday Aug. 16, 2025. The workshop was coordinated by League board members (pictured L to R) Nicki Junkins, Ann Smith, Carla Christianson (chair) and Pat Drago.

Many thanks to Volusia County Councilman David Santiago for taking time from his busy schedule to share very informative tips and recommendations for effective communication with elected officials. Carla Christianson presented an overview of the Asset Framing model which was designed to promote positive conversations about sensitive issues. The model is recommended by the LWVUS as part of its Unite and Rise 8.5 initiative (https://www.lwv.org/uniteandrise) to mobilize members to use effective advocacy strategies. Following the presentation, participants broke into small groups to discuss ways to use the model in their personal conversations and practiced using the model on a current issue.

Pictured on the front page are Advocacy Workshop Participants working in small groups to discuss how to implement the Asset Framing Model.
