In 2017, the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) was awarded grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to develop a non-regulatory regional action plan for Volusia and Brevard Counties that focused on resiliency and sustainability. The goal of the plan is to implement resiliency and climate adaptation strategies across systems.
Resilience is the ability of a “system” to resist, absorb, accommodate to and recover from the effects of a hazard in a timely and efficient manner. Given the beach erosion and flooding associated with our two most recent storms, did Volusia incorporate resiliency planning soon enough? What strategies are available that we need to consider to improve our ability to recover quickly from future storms and climate change? These questions and more will be answered in this timely session.
Join our guest speakers, Tara McCue, Executive Director of the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, and Katrina Locke, Sustainability and Resiliency Manager for Volusia County. Both women have spent much of their careers promoting and implementing sustainability and resiliency initiatives.
Ms. McCue serves on the City of Oviedo’s Sustainability Task Force and Stetson’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience Board of Directors. Ms. Locke represents Volusia County on the East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative Steering Committee and is a Board member for the Florida Green Building Coalition.
