Margaret White Houston Pomeroy Marker Dedication October 23 Georgetown Public Library

A message of Anne Boylan:

Great news! After many Covid-related delays, we are finally able to dedicate the Pomeroy Marker in honor of Margaret White Houston. The event is planned for Saturday, October 23, at (tentatively) 11 am at the Georgetown Public Library. As you no doubt do not need to be reminded, Mrs. Houston was an early vice-president of the Delaware Equal Suffrage Association, a founder of the Georgetown New Century Club (which founded the town's original library), a suffrage activist for a quarter-century (1896 -1920), and Third Vice-President of the Delaware League of Women Voters when it began in 1920.

I know how energetic the LWV of Sussex County has been in commemorating the centennial of the 19th Amendment, and so my colleagues of the Delaware Pomeroy Committee and I hope we can enlist your assistance in getting the word out about the dedication. I have cc'd them, as well as the LWV of DE president and vice-president, Gwen Miller and Kathleen Baker.  Kathleen was with us last week when we dedicated 4 Pomeroy Markers in Wilmington and also in June when the Mabel Lloyd Ridgely marker was unveiled. The LWV's Chandra Owens and Beverly Jackson also attended the Ridgely event. I will be sure to confirm the dedication time as soon as possible.

The only sticking point at the moment is that there is apparently no money in the Library's budget to cover the cost of installing the marker.  I'd be grateful if you have any suggestions as to how we might address the matter with the Library's Board.

With all good wishes,
Anne
