The White House issued a proclamation on October 29, 2021 affirming that November 2021 is National Native American Heritage Month. The proclamation reads, in part:

Despite a painful history marked by unjust Federal policies of assimilation and termination, American Indian and Alaska Native peoples have persevered.  During National Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate the countless contributions of Native peoples past and present, honor the influence they have had on the advancement of our Nation, and recommit ourselves to upholding trust and treaty responsibilities, strengthening Tribal sovereignty, and advancing Tribal self-determination. 

Visit nativeamericanheritagemonth.gov during this month of tribute to learn more about the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans. The website includes links to several exhibits and collections to aid in understanding.

Delaware Nanticoke Marker Dedication

In Delaware, a dedication of the Indian Mission School Delaware Public Archives (SC283) historical marker will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. This celebration commemorates the Nanticoke Tribe’s legacy of erecting and operating a one-room school to educate Nanticoke students in grades 1-8 beginning in the 1920s through the early 1960s. The historic marker dedication will be held at the Nanticoke Indian Center in Millsboro.
