On October 18, 2021, the LWVBC Board passed a resolution in support of the PA school funding lawsuit. The resolution supports the litigation before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court about the failure to properly enforce Pennsylvania’s constitutional guarantee of “a thorough and efficient system of public education,” and urges the Pennsylvania General Assembly to create and maintain a fair, adequate and predictable funding system that enables all children to meet state academic standards and does not discriminate against low-wealth school districts. The lawsuit was filed by Pennsylvania parents, school districts, and organizations. The trial for the lawsuit began on Friday, November 12th in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania ranks 44th in the nation in terms of state share for funding K-12 education. When state funding is inadequate, school districts are over reliant on property taxes to fund schools. For many years, PA communities including some in Bucks County have paid higher local taxes and school districts have made deep cuts as a result of inadequate state funding.

The current system hurts children and communities. Lawmakers must come together to support adequate and equitable funding for PA's public schools.
