Questions About Joining

Why should I join?

Through participation in League, you will

  • receive an informative newsletter ten times a year
  • support a lobby for good government; maybe even lobby yourself!
  • help register voters
  • make new professional contacts
  • develop lasting friendships as you meet others in League who share your interests
  • represent the League at local government meetings
  • learn about important issues in our community and
  • support the National League that stands up for good government on a national scale

How much time does it take?

It's up to you! Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications. We always can use more help with voter services or one of our other committees.

How much does it cost?

LWV membership now uses a "Pay What You Can" model. The suggested single basic membership is $75, but members can pay less (or more!), anywhere from $20 up. Note that long-term members who've been in the League for 50 years or more pay no annual dues.

  • Your membership dues payment will show up as three transactions on your account — one each to LWVNCC, LWVDE, and LWVUS. You’ll be a member of all three!

The state and local (DE and NCC) portion of the dues... 67%... is tax-deductible. You'll get an email receipt clearly stating the tax-deductible amount.

If the annual dues cause a hardship for you, inquire with your local League about scholarships. We may be able to sponsor or subsidize your membership.

What do I get?

When joining LWV you automatically become a member at three levels: local (LWV of New Castle County), state (LWV of Delaware) and national (LWV of the United States). You will receive the state and national publications/notifications along with the newsletter from the New Castle County League of Women Voters called The VOTER which is published 10 times each year. You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC and the Virgin Islands.

How do I join?

You can join at any time of year. You will receive renewal notices by email a year after you join reminding you to renew... or you can choose automatic renewal if you wish.
