Homeless

LWV - Spokane Area Homelessness Solutions & Affordable Housing Committee (AHHS)

Members meet with local housing and homelessness organizations to learn and keep current on housing solutions and homelessness issues in our community.

Studying zoning, local housing ordinances, and the Growth Management Act, informs decisions to support legislation the committee believes will increase affordable housing or decrease homelessness in the Spokane area.

The AHHS committee keeps LWV Spokane Area members informed regarding housing and homelessness issues and possible solutions.

Actions

  •  Lobbied our legislators to pass bills that would increase the supply of affordable housing and assist seniors with heating bills
  • Staffed an LWV table at the Homelessness Connect  annual services event registering voters and distributing warm clothes
  •  March 2026 AHHS presented a video documentary on the problem of senior homelessness followed by a discussion
