The League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area’s Educational Forum series will be held via Zoom in September and October. September's program features Scott Meinke, Professor of Political Science at Bucknell University, and author of numerous publications on U.S. politics and policy.

Professor Meinke will speak on “The Battle over Voting: How Courts, Congress and the States are
Expanding and Restricting Access to the Ballot.” Voting rights have been a key front in the partisan battles of our time, and the 2020 election and its aftermath have heightened the conflict. Professor Meinke will review efforts in state legislatures and Congress to restrict voter participation or to expand access. He will explain the key court decisions that have set the stage for more restrictive rules, and discuss the possible links between new laws and voter behavior. Finally, he will look ahead to ways in which new laws in some states might politicize election administration and the vote count.

Professor of Political Science and former Chair of the Department at Bucknell University, Scott
Meinke is a graduate of Wittenberg University and received his Ph.D. From Ohio State University.
Professor Meinke’s research interests are focused on Congress and legislative politics, judicial
politics, and the American presidency. His latest book is titled “Leadership Organizations in the
House of Representatives: Party Participation and Partisan Politics”, published by the University.
Of Michigan Press. He teaches American Congress, Constitutional law: Civil Liberties, the
American Presidency, American Judicial Politics, and Polarization in America.
