Time Range For Action Alert:
December 17, 2021 to February 28, 2022
There is still ice and snow and the occupancy of Spokane's temporary shelter in the convention center by 300 men, women and families proves the need.

The Guest Opinion by Dawn Schuster and Jennifer Calvert explain our League's position that the city should immediately provide shelter.

Our League has asked Spokane Mayor and City Council to Take Action on Homelessness.   (December 14, 2021)

Here are our some of our requests

"1) Substantially increase low-barrier 24/7 shelter bed capacity, including meals, for unsheltered individuals.

2) Provide additional day centers for unsheltered individuals to go where it is safe, warm, and dry.

3) Provide sanctioned public places (“safe ground” facilities) with trash disposal, restrooms, and handwashing facilities-where those experiencing homelessness can set-up tents and/or park vehicles.

4) Create and maintain a public-facing web-based dashboard which communicates real-time lowbarrier shelter bed availability."
