Representatives of LWVVC education team met with Volusia County Schools Curriculum staff to discuss issues impacting teaching and learning in our elementary schools. Discussions focused on learning loss due to COVID and remediation options available to address the problem; pacing and curriculum requirements; teacher shortage and hiring challenges; effect of high stakes testing on teaching and learning; and policy recommendations to support student success.  The discussion was lively and productive and our team appreciated the thoughtful, professional sharing of information. At our next Ed Team meeting, members will discuss how to support our local educators in creating a safe, high quality educational experience for all students.
