If you were unable to attend the gala performance of Ladies Taking Liberty, you may view it below, or on YouTube>>. Ladies Taking Liberty commemorates the 100th anniversary of passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. The original play was commissioned by LWVVC member, Suze Peace, in honor of her mother and grandmother who are direct descendents of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the original founders of the Women's Suffrage Movement in the US.
The play debuted at Deland's historic Athens Theater in November 2021. Written and directed by local playwright, Deborah McShane, the play brings the amazing story of the 72 year fight for women's suffrage to life through moving dialogue, poetry, and song. Many thanks to Suze for donating the production proceeds to LWVVC to support our voter education activities.
