Words matter. Our organization’s original non-partisan stance was a way to ensure that all women would feel included and inclined to vote. Since then, it has been a hallmark of our work and the cornerstone of our reputation. But a combination of factors has led to a hyper-partisan political climate where the focus is more on “winning” than informing voters on the issues. While these factors make our job more difficult, it is imperative that we stay above the fray of partisan politics.
Connecticut Public and the League of Women Voters of Connecticut (LWVCT) will co-produce an unprecedented series of eight debates in advance of the November 2022 elections, including debates for the statewide offices of Governor and Secretary of the State, as well as U.S. Senate and Connecticut’s five U.S. Congressional districts.
The 2020 census has had an impact on Voting and State Legislative Districts in Ridgefield.
Our country’s explicitly stated values of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” and breaking the chains of tyranny was a historic first. Our country has strived to live up to its promise and create what Abraham Lincoln called a “more perfect union”, but for many of us, the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade feels like that progress has been stopped dead in its tracks. We need to continue demanding a seat at the table for everyone, using every tool available to us, including our vote.
