Join the LWV of the East Shore for the 2022 Annual Meeting. This is a yearly meeting to set the budget, elect the Board of Directors and plan for the upcoming year. To celebrate being together in person, this year there will be an “indoor” picnic catered from the Marketplace in Guilford. The meeting will feature keynote speaker Bill Lucey of Save the Sound who will discuss The Impact of Climate Change on our Eastern Shoreline. Registration is required.

The Connecticut Sun is hosting a Title IX panel and networking event in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. The event will begin with 1 hour of networking followed by a panel discussion featuring moderator Clare Marash, and guest speakers Ann McAllister, Carol Stiff, and Karen Issokson-Silver. Admission to the panel costs $50 and includes a free drink voucher, ticket to the CT Sun vs. NY Liberty game following the panel, and a free ticket to the Basketball Hall of Fame. LWVSECT will be heading a voter registration table in the concourse, so stop by and say hello!

This program focuses on voting issues ACROSS OUR UNITED STATES, like disparity of state election laws, the states as laboratories of democracy, threats of voter suppression and vote negation, advocacy and the challenges of a federal solution.

It is time for our state to provide more opportunities for eligible voters to cast their ballot in person―and not just on Election Day. This November 8, Connecticut voters will get a chance to vote for that change. Voters will see this question on their ballot: Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?
Gather on the lawn for Mark Twain Library’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Day featuring Poetry, Justice & Jazz. Mark the day with discussions, jazz classics and selected poetry readings. Moderated by Tom Kilbourn, Episcopal priest and retired Joel Barlow High School English teacher. Registration recommended, but not required. Walk-ins welcome.This program will take place outside under the Library’s tent, rain or shine. This discussion is part of the Conversations Series which was created in partnership by the Redding League of Women Voters and the Mark Twain Library in an effort to offer our community the opportunity to continue the conversation on race.
