Get Involved: More Ways to Support our League

If you don’t have time to devote to reaching out to our communities or committee work, please consider these opportunities to participate.

Join our Book Club discussions: Diane Knable, Chair. This members-only event meets the second Tuesdays from 7 - 9 p.m. on odd-numbered months: January, March, May, July, September, and November. All book club discussionmembers are welcome to join the discussions. We read any books that we feel will open our minds and generate discussion. The books do not have to relate to the mission or actions of LWV and can be fiction or nonfiction. The person nominating a book must have read it and will be the discussion leader, if the book is chosen. Every third meeting, we also choose the three books and the hosts for the next three meetings (6 months).  Read the book and join the conversation! When we meet in person, someone volunteers to host the club at her home. Check our book schedule.

Attend our Civic Awareness series. The programs are typically scheduled for the secondcivic awareness program at Cantigny Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. The League of Women Voters and Cantigny Park have been presenting a Civic Awareness program since 2017 to inform and encourage engagement in our Democracy. Topics have included campaign finance, ERA, fake news, immigration, issues before the Supreme Court, and more. These programs are free and open to the public. Parking is free when we meet at Cantigny Park for these events. Please check our calendar for upcoming speakers.

Participate in Living Room Conversations. We generally meet Monday evenings; please check Living Room Conversation logothe calendar. The Wheaton League and the Wheaton Public Library host a community conversation series using the framework of the national program, “Living Room Conversations.” Facilitators ask small groups questions to encourage respectful discussions among people with differing points of view about thought-provoking topics. Topics have included American values, social justice, money in politics, news: expectations vs. reality, homelessness, criminal justice, and more. These programs are free and open to the public.

Walk & Talk with the League! Join a group of League members to walk the trails at differentwalking group locations throughout our communities to get some fresh air and fresh conversation. We walk for about an hour. You’ll get to know your fellow League members better and to talk about issues/events that are important to you. We meet one or two times a month; times and days to meet vary. Please check the League’s website calendar.
