During the past year, the LWVCC DEI Committee has been having conversations regarding DEI in Concord. The Committee has sponsored several events to help the community learn more about these issues. They have also collaborated with local religious and community groups interested in making the Concord community more welcoming.

There have been some steps in Concord to address DEI.

Andrew Nyamekye was hired in April 2021 as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Concord and Concord-Carlisle school districts. Concord Town Manager Stephen Crane has brought in a consultant to address DEI issues related to town employees. These are good steps but the League is advocating for a town-wide effort as exists in most of our neighboring communities. We believe the time is now to address Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on a town-wide basis by establishing a DEI Commission in Concord.

The LWVCC DEI Committee has prepared a  draft charge for a Town DEI Commission.
