Your Vote Makes a Difference - Vote Every Time

Elections have consequences.

EVERY ELECTION MATTERS. The results of elections affect everyone - those who vote and those who do not. Yet voter turnout in the April 2 municipal elections was just 16.3 percent in St. Louis County and even lower in other Missouri counties. The race for the mayor of Willard ended in a tie, with both candidates receiving 349 votes.

News

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a theory in Moore v. Harper that would have given state legislatures nearly unrestricted authority to set the rules for federal elections.

Harper

LWVMO joined LWVUS in filing an amicus brief in a Supreme Court case that could define our democracy for years to come. The case, Moore v. Harper, focuses on the “independent state legislature theory" which, if adopted, would give state legislatures nearly unrestricted authority to set the rules for federal elections. The League believes checks and balances are an essential part of our democracy, keeping power in the hands of the people rather than politicians.
