Judge Jon Beetem issued a preliminary injunction in a League lawsuit challenging provisions of HB1878. The state cannot enforce new restrictions on voter registration and absentee ballot solicitation until after the court hears the case and issues a final judgment.

More than 175 members of LWV of Metro St. Louis rushed to register as voter solicitors in 2022 to comply with restrictions the court agreed are unreasonable.

LWVMO President Marilyn McLeod said. "We're delighted that the court recognized the League plays ‘an essential role in encouraging and enabling eligible Missourians to participate in our democracy.'"

The plaintiffs in the suit are the League of Women Voters of Missouri and the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP.

The League and Missouri NAACP are also challenging the bill's strict photo ID provisions in a separate lawsuit. The new law also removed several forms of ID used to vote, including a voter ID card, student ID and utility bill. For the Fact Sheet on HB1878, click here.
