You can request a Vote By Mail Ballot online. The DuPage County Election Division must receive your mailed request the Thursday before the election, or in-person the Monday before the election. Once you sign up to receive a Vote By Mail ballot, you may also sign up for Ballot Tracker, which tracks the status of your mail-in ballot, from printed to accepted.

Go to Voter Lookup and then type in the required information to see your VBM status, which is under “Voter Information – Absentee Status.” category For example, if you are signed up to receive a VBM ballot only in the general elections, “Permanent Vote By Mail General Only” displays, and you will receive a VBM for the November 5 General Election.

You must write a letter with your name, address, DOB, and signature to the DuPage County Election Division requesting that you be removed from the permanent Vote By Mail program. Mail the letter to the Election Division’s office (PO Box 1087, Wheaton, IL 60187), or email a scanned copy of the letter to votebymail [at] dupagecounty.gov.

Your Questions Answered: My adult child no longer lives in DuPage County; how does she remove herself from the voter roll?
A voter may cancel her voter registration by emailing, faxing, or mailing a signed letter or by filling out an Affidavit of Cancellation or Transfer of Previous Registration. The letter requesting to cancel a person's voter registration should include the voter’s name, date of birth, old address, and signature. Scan and email the letter or affidavit to jessica.stachniak [at] dupageco.org; fax to (630) 407-5630; or mail to DuPage County Clerk Election Division, PO Box 1087, Wheaton, IL 60187.
Note: This letter must be from the voter, not their parents. If the voter doesn’t wish to notify the Election Division, the current resident may write “Return to Sender” on any piece of mail received for the former resident. The former resident will be made inactive and eventually canceled.

The next Consolidated Election will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Consolidated elections are typically for local government offices such as Municipal Officers, Village and Township Officers, School Board members, etc. They are “consolidated” and held on one date across the state and county to increase voter participation and to decrease taxpayer costs. They are held in odd-numbered years.

To register or update your existing registration, you will need two forms of paper (not digital) ID: one with your current name AND address and one with either your current name OR current address. YES! You do not need a current driver’s license or state ID to register, update your registration, or vote. To register to vote, you must be a US citizen and be 18 by election day. For deceased voters, the Election Division either needs a copy of the death certificate or a signed letter from the voter’s next of kin. The Election Division receives all Death Certificates for deaths in DuPage County, but it never hurts to hear more than once.

You cannot do both on one site but you can do both online. First, you register to vote on the Illinois Board of Election site and then you request a Vote By Mail Ballot on the DuPage Election Division site.
