Greetings to my fellow Leaguers –
I am excited to begin my term as president, and I look forward to working with everyone over the next two years!
Several of your LWVNC board members attended LWVUS Council in June in Las Vegas, and we came back truly energized about programs and League vision. The long-term goals of LWVUS are very exciting, and the new business model that will be implemented next year will be an important development to ensure the strength and viability of our organization for years to come. We will be covering both topics throughout this year.
We want to make sure that every League member is informed about what the state League is doing to support local Leagues and to harness League power at the state level to impact issues that are important to us. To do that, we will introduce a new quarterly newsletter in September that will provide an opportunity for LWVNC leaders and action teams to discuss issues and share activities that LWVNC is working on – plus information about grant opportunities, DEI content, and more. Look for the first newsletter in a few weeks.
We are monitoring the evolution of legislation that will impact voting processes and procedures throughout the state. A summary of these bills and their impact can be found in our op ed that appeared in the Raleigh News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer. We will be undertaking important communications efforts to help voters understand new election laws beginning this fall. We have a lot of work to do to help voters understand the process and not be deterred from voting!
In the category of communications tools, we will continue to hold Presidents' Calls. They will be held on the second Monday of each month by Zoom, and we also hope to convene a few "All Member" calls throughout the year. There's a lot to look forward to. But in the meantime, enjoy the last of your summer while we gear up for municipal elections!
In League,
Jennifer
