Program Issues for Emphasis

Voter Outreach Issue Education Advocacy - Our Communities Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, Woodside

The LWVUS Program is the education and advocacy platform the League membership adopts at each biennial LWV National Convention. The goal of the LWVUS Program Planning process is to collectively agree on how LWV will move our mission forward for the next two years.

LWVUS Program consists of three parts:

  • Action to implement League Principles;
  • Study or concurrence on a governmental issue to develop new Positions or to update existing Positions; and
  • Action on government issues.

The League Program, our grassroots method, is where the power of our collective action comes to life. It's how we, as LWV, support our mission through education and advocacy. All our actions, advocacy, and education are based on support for League Positions and League Principles, reflecting your influence in shaping our initiatives.

The LWVUS Program 2024 – 2026 continues the campaign for Making Democracy Work® whose program focus, a.k.a Issues for Emphasis, includes:

  • Voting Rights
  • Improving Elections
  • Money in Politics
  • Redistricting
  • Abolishing the Electoral College

At the 2024 LWVSSMC Annual Meeting, our League adopted the following local Issues for Emphasis:

  • Making Democracy Work®
  • Civic Education
  • Undertake a one-year study on local government transparency and accountability. The study will examine how local elections are financed, reporting practices, and how that information
is available to the public. This study will commence after the November 2024 election.
  • Redistricting with a goal of the adoption of legally binding legislation requiring independent
    commissions for county supervisors.
  • Increase voter engagement for youth and underrepresented in elections, turning non-voters
    into voters.
