The League of Women Voters of North Carolina is pleased to serve as a co-sponsor of an upcoming half-day symposium examining North Carolina's reproductive healthcare landscape. Members of LWVODC, Triangle Area NOW, Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom (IVRF), and community partners have been meeting regularly to analyze the state’s network of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs), which receive $19 million in state funding, and to strategize responses.

On February 7 in Chapel Hill, these partners will host "NC's Reproductive Healthcare Crisis: Misinformation, Misdirected Funding." The program will address the role of CPCs, the growing strain on healthcare providers as legitimate clinics and Medicaid are defunded, and the way CPCs function as maternal-care vouchers analogous to private school vouchers.

Confirmed speakers include Amy Bryant, MD, MSCR, Division Director of Complex Family Planning at UNC Chapel Hill, along with Tara Ramono, Executive Director of Pro-Choice NC, and a representative from Planned Parenthood. The symposium will feature a panel discussion and opportunities for direct action, including postcards to state officials, calls for fiscal oversight, and petition signing.

Registration is required. The program will conclude by 2 p.m. Additional details will follow upon registration.
