The presentation Empowering League Issues: Federal Judiciary, Immigration & Privatization of Health Care is being offered via Zoom on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Noon. This presentation will share information about the League Program, review the recently adopted Federal Judiciary position and examine two League of Women Voters (LWV) positions concerning immigration and health care in need of updating as they pertain to the LWV Program.

In the lingo of the League of Women Voters, Program refers to selected governmental issues chosen by members at the local, state and national levels for study and action usually in January/February to be forwarded to the state and national League and Positions refers to a statement of the League's point of view on an issue, arrived at through member study and agreement (consensus or concurrence), approved by the appropriate board and used as a basis for League action.

Under the structure of the LWV each Local League develops their Local Program which is presented to their membership for a vote at their Annual Meeting. Currently our Local Program under section C. State and Federal Governmentsstate “Support LWVPA and LWVUS proposals and positions”. Therefore it is important to share with our members these League Program Positions concerning our Federal Judiciary Policy, Immigration update Concurrence and Privatization Concurrence as it impacts Health Care.

Presentation Highlights include:

  • What is LWV Program
  • Sharing of the LWV adopted Federal Judiciary Position and information about the use of the Shadow Docket of the US Supreme Court.
  • Review of the current LWV immigration position and the recommended concurrence to update the position.
  • Review of the current LWV Privatization position and the recommended concurrence to update the position concerning health care.
