The League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County (LWVCDC) and the League of Women Voters of Radnor Township (LWVRadnor) are holding a MEMBERS ONLY in-person event to meet with our US House of Representative Mary Gay Scanlon on Saturday, April 26 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County 145 W. Rose Tree Road, Media, PA 19063.
US House of Representative Mary Gay Scanlon represents Pennsylvania's fifth congressional district which encompasses all of Delaware County, an exclave of Chester County, a small portion of southern Montgomery County and a section of southern Philadelphia.

The ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE DAY March/Caravan is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025 beginning at 12:00 PM. The starting point is Chester City Hall 1 E 4th St, Chester, PA 19013 and will end at the Covanta trash incinerator. This environmental justice day is sponsored by Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living (CRCQL) with the purpose to generate awareness of the pollution from the nation’s largest trash incinerator and its detrimental impacts to the health of residents in the city and across the county.

The International Relations Study Group of the League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County has been active for years studying different countries meeting monthly on the second Tuesday at 12:30 pm. To generate discussion the group uses the Great Decisions Briefing Book resources put out by the Foreign Policy Association.

This month May 13, 2025 the discussion will be a review of Chapter 4 of Great Decisions titled India: Between China, the West and the Global South.

A Prescription from the Grassroots: Action is the Antidote to Despair is the Hot Topic presentation on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Noon via Zoom. The presenter is Dr. Lisa Goldstein, a practicing psychiatrist and a grassroots activist, who will explore strategies for surviving, thriving and resisting in 2025 and into the future. She draws on evidence based mental health strategies and the work of experts in authoritarianism.

Calling all League members, you are invited to go to Harrisburg May 5 to lobby our local legislators. The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania (LWVPA) will give you, the T-shirt, the talking points, a lunch voucher and the map of Pennsylvania's stunningly ornate capitol. It's worth the trip just to see it.
Legislative Advocate Jodine Mayberry will make appointments with four legislators to visit and will arrange transportation.

LWVPA is hoping for a really good turnout this year. We will be talking about elections, gun safety, health, and environmental issues with our legislators.

SAVE ACT
News

OPPOSE the SAVE ACT. If enacted, the SAVE Act is a highly restrictive national photo ID bill. It includes a requirement that in order to vote, all voters produce a valid, government issued, photo ID, such as Real ID card, a passport, or a military ID. All would require a photo AND a statement of birthplace, proving citizenship.

Letter to Congress

On February 14, 2025 the 105th anniversary of its founding, the League of Women Voters sent a letter to Congressional leadership regarding the organization's grave concern over the state of our nation. Specifically, the League writes to urge Congress to exercise its authority to protect the rule of law, defend the Constitution, and end the overreach that the Executive Branch has shown in the last few weeks. The attached letter outlines our concerns and is signed by leadership from every state League and DC affiliate in the country.
