Winston-Salem, NC—A federal judge upheld a North Carolina voting law challenged by the League of Women Voters of North Carolina and partner organizations, marking a significant outcome in ongoing efforts to protect voter access.
The case focused on provisions of Senate Bill 747, which plaintiffs argued would disproportionately impact young voters and others by increasing the likelihood that ballots could be rejected due to technical or mail delivery issues.
The court declined to block the law that includes changes to same-day registration. The League expressed deep concern about the ruling’s potential impact. In a statement, LWVNC President Jennifer McMillan Rubin said the decision “will disenfranchise countless eligible voters through a flawed, discriminatory process.”
Despite the outcome, the League reaffirmed its commitment to voter education and access, emphasizing that it will continue working to ensure North Carolinians understand how to navigate the current rules and make their voices heard at the ballot box.
